GTA 6 is not playable on ps4 and Xbox.
Rockstar has said that GTA 6 will not be playable on PS4 and Xbox One. ... GTA 5 came out for both old/current-gen and next-gen consoles, but next-gen had more features
compared to old gen consoles.
The GTA 6 release date seems even further away this week, as Rockstar Games committed to bringing Grand Theft Auto V to next-gen consoles in "the second half of 2021". It also means that if there was any doubt before, all thoughts about GTA 6 coming to PS4 or Xbox One have all but been extinguished.
Grand Theft Auto fans were desperately hoping that GTA 6 would be announced earlier this week during the Sony PS5 reveal event. As far fetched as this seemed, the very fact that Amazon also added 100 unannounced PS5 games to its product listings this week - including one title from Rockstar Games - was enough to get fans buzzing
Fast forward to 9pm BST on Thursday and it was not GTA 6 greeting fans, but rather the sound of Michael De Santa asking 'Why did I move here'. That's right, having first released on PS3 and Xbox 360, GTA 5, the biggest entertainment product of all time, is coming to next-gen consoles.
Depending on your outlook on life, that's either really good news because one of the best games of all time is getting a massive lick of new paint and more expansions; or, you'll be somewhat disappointed simply because it's not GTA 6.
Unfortunately, this appears to be the way Rockstar Games are looking to move forward with the series and it could lend some serious weight to suggestions the game is years outout
Given that GTA 5 first released in 2013, that idea seemed, a little off base with everything fans had heard so far. In fact, if memory serves it was Tech Radar back in 2016 who published a report suggesting production on the game had already started.
In 2015, Rockstar Games then President, Leslie Benzies, was also talking up the next game, saying:
"We've got about 45 years worth of ideas we want to do. We don't know what GTA 6 will be, but we've got some ideas". Benzies stated at the time.
"It comes from the idea first. Where is it going to be set is the first question. Then that defines the missions; you're doing different things in LA than in New York or Miami. The map and story get worked up together, and the story is a basic flow of how it works out so you can layer the missions in ".
Of course, between then and now, Rockstar Games were also working on Red Dead Redemption 2, another classic worthy of all the critical and commercial success it's rreceived
There was also a disparity between Schreier's comments and the comments by Rockstar Games' most high-profile insiders.
Yan2295 was one voice within the community who did not disagree with Schreier's reporting. For reference, Yan used to be one of the most high profile Rockstar Games leakers, before stopping, ar request of Rockstar Games. Anyway, Yan2295 suggested the game was likely to be in the "early stages of testing", rather than the early stages of development.
This new GTA 5 Expanded and Enhanced edition is coming out in "the second half of 2021" which we would imagine is the sort of activity you would do right before launching a brand new game in the same series. Added to this, it's not just a new edition with technical improvements and visual upgrades, but new content too.
As per Rockstar: "for the massive and vibrant community of Grand Theft Auto Online players worldwide, the journey through the ever-evolving, shared world of GTA Online will continue on to the new generation with more new updates including additional GTA Online content exclusive tothe new consoles and PC. There will also be a new standalone version of GTA Online coming in the second half of 2021 "
So again, it would be awfully strange to release new content if there's a new game mere months away.
Immediately it seems clear that there's no way GTA 6 is coming in 2021. Even 2022 seems a slight stretch unless it was coming at the tail end of the year.
We shouldn't have to point this out, but sometimes people need it spelling out. This also (finally) puts to rest any crazy notions of the game coming to PS4 or Xbox One.
There's certainly no way GTA 6 comes to current consoles when Rockstar Games are porting the version which launched over 5 years ago on new hardware.
Equally so, any previous rumors suggesting GTA 6 could be a launch exclusive for PlayStation can also be put to bed. We'll strike a line through those particular 4chan leaks.
